Contrary to what many of us think, our brains are NOT filing cabinets.
As we sit on the edge of 2012, with our bright shiny goals and aspirations before us, I think we need two main things in our toolbox: Creativity and Systems.
Our brains are meant for thinking and creating.
What our brains are NOT meant for are keeping hundreds of scheduling, appointments, and to-do lists in our memory.
When our minds are full of the logistical details of our lives, we run out of room to be creative.
It’s like the hard drive on the iphone or computer. We need to put data into a systematic place to make more blank space in the computer.
The number one component of creativity is a relaxed mind that has space to roam.
Putting a system or two in place that does the memorizing for you, and that keeps all your goals and actionable items and deadlines, and scheduling for you is the number one way to increase your creativity.
Organizing systems do the work for you that you are misappropriating to your brain.
I’d like to reccommend 2 people and systems that I am using and find awesome to increase my creativity.
Chris Guillebeau’s Annual Review Template as well as his year in review posts are an overall excellent methodology to systemize your goals, schedule, and work load in an organized and automated way.
Charlie Gilkey of Productive Flourishing is the Maestro of these sorts of systems and he has a bunch of free planners on his site. He is also available for one on one coaching where he gets your creativity and productivity firing together.
The thing about planning and systems is that you do the difficult work of preparing and then, you just let go and let the systems work for you.
Let your brain do what is was truly meant to do: think and create.
And speaking of creative….Are you registered for my photo course starting Jan 16th?
Or maybe it’s time for you to start off this year coaching one on one with me! People have had amazing RESULTS and SHIFTS!
