The Shedventure begins today!
In the spirit of losing it, I’ve decided to post raw video with a silly outtake at the end!
I’m letting go of the desire/need to present myself polished, edited, and with diffused lighting.
Often, the most important thing is just to show up. And start where you are.
Shed Project Members: I’ve left some notes on the Bindu’s Shedquarters link in the Flickr Forum Shed Project Home Page.
If you haven’t done it yet, join the Flickr Forum so you see the notes I will be leaving about what’s next in the Shed process.
The official hashtags are: #theshedproject and #shedventure

What a great way to launch The Shedventure! I so loved this video. It contained so many great concepts, but a few phrases really caught my ear and resonated with me.
Your comments re: people fearing space – I find this especially true with verbal space. People generally seem very uncomfortable with lulls in conversation. But these quiet spaces can be so powerful. I find silence very useful in my coaching practice and in my personal life. It gives people the space they need to let the right things come forward – in their minds and in their hearts. They can be more honest with themselves and with me. I don’t think that would happen as well or as easily without some quiet space in our discussions.
Your comments re: people choosing and playing with impermanence – I am a big believer in personal responsibility and the power of choice. One of the great things about The Shedventure is that, if nothing else, it forces us to face the fact that there are some negative, hurtful, non-useful things we are choosing to hold on to. If, in the end, we decide not to shed something in particular, we will at least be more aware of why we are holding on to it and how it is serving us. I just love the idea of being so conscious re: our choices and resulting actions we take (or don’t).
Geronimo!!!!!
you are utterly adorable – you know that, right?

Wow sounds great! I’m currently preparing my body/mind/soul for pregnancy so this sounds like a great time for me to shed the things that are no longer serving me!

Hey Bindu,
I’ve been watching this project coming up without not nearly the same enthusiasm I did for the 2105800 (which I still keep going by the way), having been through a big clean out of my studio and downsizing of my work in the near past. Now watching this I realise how near this is to where we dream from and am suddenly keen. Ironically I have a week scheduled in 2 weeks specifically to tackle my old home office and clear away the business manuals to make room for paints and brushes and inspiration.
As always so close to my truth.
Gxx

I’m so excited about losing it over the next 8 weeks and I’m totally honored to have been invited to launch the letting go with you. I think so often we hold onto things because we’re not only afraid of empty space, but also afraid that we can’t have what we really want so we just hold on to what we already have…it’s like that Joseph Campbell quote: “We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” Here’s to creating the void and allowing it to be empty and then fill with good…and then being willing to create it again later on when we’re ready to let go once again…
This is awesome, what a GREAT project. People have such a hard time leaving everything or even letting go. I grew up in a house where we kept everything, and boy it sure trickled down to me. But a year ago, I sold everything besides clothes, computer, and the basic things I needed to live. I relocated to FL, and I just did the same thing again. This time to AZ and it is so much easier to buy new things then hail them all over the country. Letting go of things is a great way to begin new adventures in life. This is going to be fun, I started this project two weeks ago without even knowing it. I look forward to sharing everything with the community.
The best part of the interview is when Kate, compares emptying a drawer to losing 5 pounds. If it was only that easy!!
Have a great day.
P.S. The best way to sell a household, video tape everything you want to sell. Make it into a movie with prices in the movie, and post it all over Craigslist. I took one video, placed 10 ads, and approx. 800 views and sold everything in a week.
Love you Bindu. You’re doing such a great job of creating community and space and freedom already.
The things I’m trying to let go of deal with thought patterns. I knew I was a minimalist the day my girlfriend came to visit me from Chicago and said, ‘Cheryl, I’m going to take over your shower.” I said, “Sure no problem,” thinking she just meant she would be a while in the shower.
I went after her and realized she literally took the space over with products of all kinds for her face, hair, and body. I looked at my Suave shampoo and conditioner and one bar of soap and thought, “Is there something wrong with me? Am I not girly enough?”
It made me realize how simple I really was. I appreciated it.
Looking forward to the next 8 weeks!

@Cheryl
You know — I am no big hoarder of lots of products, though I do have some. And I’ve been thinking a lot lately of why I really need to have all these things I rarely use and what could be a simpler way to do all this.
It’s inspired me to use up the stuff and make a switch to something simpler. I’m actually thinking of going to Dr. Bronner’s as an all-around shower gel and shampoo. I’ve done it before and liked it. And — one product.
So no, I don’t think anything is wrong with you!
Wow, that last part was a doozy- the degree of fear that you have is equivalent to the degree of freedom you may feel on the other side. Makes my nervous just thinking about it. I’m in!
