What is Enlightened Society?

by Bindu Wiles on June 15, 2011

I want to tell you right from the get-go: these aren’t my ideas.

They are my teacher’s, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche‘s.

He had a vision of a society that promotes the qualities of wakefulness, fearlessness, and gentleness.

He believed that there is a ‘basic human wisdom that can help solve the world’s problems. This wisdom does not belong to any one culture or religion, nor does it come from the West or the East. Rather, it is a tradition of human warriorship that has existed in many cultures at many times throughout history.’

Here’s where I’m coming from:

Social Media is a VERY powerful tool.  Many of us have found a way to make our living online doing what we love, and are either doing it and are very successful, or we are on our way there.

But I have been thinking, to what end?

For me, it’s simply not enough to conquor the financial realm and be an entrepreneur.

I also realized I don’t want to dominate the world. I’ve been dominated most of my life and it just doesn’t feel good.

What I would like to do is use the power of social media to take things in society to the next level of collective consciousness.

To place an empahsis on the arts, healing, and spirituality as the underpinnings of human freedom and societal direction.

I want to get the business people and the artists and spiritual practioners together more intimately, powerfully, and publicly.

I fear that without this sort of vision, we who thrive through social media, are in danger of becoming the next version of Corporate America.

For example, I hear high level social media people talk about mindfulness in one sentence and gaming the book publishing industry in the next.

We who are making our living online are a very powerful group. I am stunned by the level of innovation, creativity, and audience reached.

I believe we can harness and direct ourselves as a community to really truly use this power to uplift not only ourselves, but others who still flounder and suffer out there.

The artists and healers and spiritual practioners have always been an underutilized group. The principles that the healer and artist embody need to come to the center of the mandala for the benefit of all beings and to alleviate the harshness of the world.

There’s got to be more to why we all want to be at home making our living on our own terms.

Let’s begin to Create Enlightened Society.

Please @ me or email me if you resonate with this and want to be a part of it.

There’s room for everyone.

I will be posting regularly on these ideas and visions, and unrolling projects that facilitate wakefulness, fearlessness and gentleness.

I am aiming to have a gathering in Santa Fe in about a year for a weekend with speakers.

I am setting my intentions publicly. I would like everyone to join in and spread the word.
